Thyroid function and immune status in perch (Perca fluviatilis) from lakes contaminated with PFASs or PCBs

چکیده
The environment contains a multitude of man-made chemicals, some which can act as endocrine disruptors (EDCs), while others be immunotoxic. We evaluated thyroid disruption and immunotoxic effects in wild female perch (Perca fluviatilis) collected from two contaminated areas Sweden; one site with per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) sites polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), reference included for each area. hepatic mRNA expression receptors ? ?, the hormone metabolising iodothyronine deiodinases (dio1, dio2 dio3) were measured using real-time PCR, levels T3 plasma was analysed radioimmunoassay. In addition, lymphocytes, granulocytes, thrombocytes counted microscopically. Our results showed lower well amounts lymphocytes granulocytes PFAS-contaminated compared to sites. expressions coding enzymes (dio2 receptor (thra) significantly different these fish their site. For at PCB-contaminated sites, there no significant differences or thyroid-related genes, fish. Fish had higher both second PCB lake lake; hence PCBs are unlikely cause this effect. current study suggests that lifelong exposure PFASs could affect status immune defence wild.

Sperm characteristics in perch Perca fluviatilis L
Sperm production is a crucial factor for the potential reproductive success of males in many species (Nakatsuru & Kramer, 1982). Especially under strong sperm competition, higher sperm numbers in the ejaculates are likely to increase a male’s chance of fertilization (Parker et al., 1996). But sperm production is limited by physiological constraints, e.g. by testis size, which often depends on t...
متن کاملFirst-year overwinter mortality in Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis L.)
The importance of overwinter mortality of 0+ perch (Perm fluviatilis L.) in central European lakes was estimated using a stochastic simulation model. The probability of overwinter mortality of a perch co hort was calculated by using a model developed for yellow perch (P. flavescens Mitchill). Winter duration from a long-term data set and the length of perch at the end of the first year from fi...
متن کاملDomestication drive the changes of immune and digestive system of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis)
Domestication has altered a variety of traits within the Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), including phenotypic, physiological and behavioral traits of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis). Little is known, however, about the genetic changes between domesticated and wild Eurasian perch. In this study, we assembled a high-quality de novo reference transcriptome and identified differentially expr...
متن کاملChemosensory mediated behaviors and gene transcription profiles in wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens) from metal contaminated lakes.
The olfactory system of fish is sensitive to the toxic effects of low concentrations of contaminants. To investigate the effects of long-term metal exposure on olfaction in wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens), fish from one clean (Geneva Lake) and two metal-contaminated lakes (Ramsey and Hannah lakes) were collected in and around the metal-mining district of Sudbury, ON. Two different techniqu...
متن کاملMetazoan Parasites of Perch Perca fluviatilis L. From Lake Sığırcı, Ipsala, Turkey
There has been no previous parasitological survey of perch Perca fluviatilis in Turkey. Consequently, the objectives of the present study were to investigate the metazoan parasite communities of perch and also to calculate infection parameters of the parasites in a eutrophic lake. A total of 52 perch were collected seasonally from Lake Sığırcı in Ipsala, Turkey, between April 2009 and February ...
